March 24 – Travel Day
Alaina took the full day off to do some last minute
errands. Caleb took a half day. We were loaded in the car and headed to get
Hattie at school by 1:30PM. We stopped
to pick up a late lunch at McDonald’s, then picked up Hattie. We were southbound by 2:00PM. We didn’t hit too much traffic until the
outskirts of Birmingham. Wrecks and road
construction was causing major traffic delays. We stopped at a gas station for
the girls to use the bathroom again (literally about an hour and a half after
stopping at our standard Jasper Love’s rest stop) and decided to take an
alternate route.
I think we were on the road for almost 4 hours before the
girls fell asleep. We finally arrived at our “halfway” motel in Dothan, AL at
about 8:00PM. We ate supper at a Mexican restaurant next door. Caleb forgot to tell the front desk we needed
double beds, so we got a king room.
Truthfully, this probably worked out for the best. Everyone slept well.
We stayed at a Motel 6 for about $55.
The room was clean and quiet for the most part. If we decided to split travel into two days
again, we would stay here again.
